The amazing Greek urns were designed and created through a process called sgraffito-a scraping and delicate carving into the clay urn.  The freshmen first covered a matboard with terra cotta crayon, covered it with ink and then etched out a design using a scratch knife. A central image, pattern and texture were elements considered.
